Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Warrington Road Club Guidance

Latest Update 28th March 2021.

From March 29, UK Government guidance now permits groups of up to six people to ride together informally.

Below is a summary of the current position (29/03/2021) for cycling activity – this information is taken from the guidance published by British Cycling.

  • Appropriate social distancing must be maintained before, after and when not actively participating in cycling activities.
  • Strong hand hygiene should be practiced by all involved before, during and after all cycling activity.
  • Participants must not attend a ride if they have Covid-19 symptoms, have someone in their household who does and are in the extremely vulnerable category or if they have been asked to remain at home by the UK Government test and trace system.
  • Carefully consider the risks when planning your route, avoiding busy areas where possible, and consider how social distancing measures may impact on the activity, including things like the areas where you start, stop or take a break.
  • Participants must practice good respiratory hygiene during the activity (i.e.+coughing, sneezing into a tissue or the crook of an elbow)
  • Riders will be required to maintain a ‘one metre plus’ distance from others while Riding.
  • When riding two abreast, we advise that riders should aim to stay beside the same rider for as much of the ride as possible.
  • Participants must provide their own equipment and refreshments and avoid sharing the like of water bottles and food.
  • Refreshment stops are permitted, however at these points you should default to the Government’s general guidance for social meetings and split into wholly separate groups of no more than six. Individuals shouldn’t move between different groups during your stop. You should also make yourself aware of and adhere to all other guidance put in place by the establishment .

Warrington is now classed as a Tier 4 (Stay at Home) Area. In Tier 4 you are permitted to ride with one other person from outside your household, but you must maintain social distancing measures.

You must ride locally and must not travel to a lower tier area. Members are reminded about the infection dangers of drafting, which are even more pertinent with the new strain of Covid. Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Warrington Road Club Response:

December 24th, 2020

Warrington Road Club new New Covid Guidance:

Covid Area Classifications have changed from December 26th. Warrington is now classed as a Tier 3 (Very High) Area

Different rules apply in each tier, however in Tiers 1 to 3 the guidance states that you must not socialise in a group of more than six people outside – the ‘rule of six’. This would allow group rides of up to six people in Tiers 1-3.

For groups from ‘Very High’ areas, you are permitted to ride into ‘Medium’ – Tier 1, ‘High’ – Tier 2, or other ‘Very High’ – Tier 3 areas as part of your route, however you should only stop for a break while within your own area.

You should not enter or leave a Tier 4 (‘Stay at home’) area while exercising.

There is no restriction on the distance you can cycle for exercise, or the frequency of rides.

Members can wear WRC club clothing and can organise their rides using the WRC Facebook Site.

Members are reminded that the health risks from Covid 19 have not diminished and riding in groups is entirely a personal decision.

Best Regards, WRC Committee

  • Groups of up to six riders from different households are allowed.
  • Groups can ride into a Tier 3 Area (Very High Risk) as part of a route but should not stop for a break in a Tier 3 Area.
  • Members can wear WRC club clothing and can organise their rides using the WRC Facebook Site.
Members are reminded that the health risks from Covid 19 have not diminished and riding in groups is entirely a personal decision.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Warrington Road Club Response:

Nov 4th 2020

Summary: What is permitted under the new restrictions?

Under the new restrictions cycling and being active is still strongly encouraged, and here’s a summary of the rules you’ll need to follow:

Only ride alone, with those in your household/support bubble, or with one person from another household. If you are riding with a person from another household, you must only ever ride as a pair. For example, two riders from the same household cannot ride in a group of three with a person from another household, unless all are part of the same support bubble.

Stay two metres apart from anybody not from your household/support bubble.

If you are experiencing any coronavirus symptoms, are self-isolating, are sharing a household /support bubble with somebody with symptoms, or have been told to self-isolate after being contacted by NHS Test and Trace, you should stay at home.

There are no restrictions on how far or how often you can ride, however we recommend that you stay within your ability level and prepare accordingly, especially if you are riding alone.

For essential journeys, the Government is encouraging people to cycle or walk where possible.

Keep safe everyone.

Regards,

Warrington Road Club Committee.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Warrington Road Club Response: July 4th 2020

Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Warrington Road Club Response:

July 4th 2020

Dear Members,

It is two weeks since the club’s last update regarding Covid19. As the government gradually eases its restrictions, it is opportune to send a further update to all club members:

  • WRC policy is for members to ride solo or at most in a pair when wearing club kit
  • British Cycling have maintained their 2 metre distancing guidance
  • Be aware that drafting / slipstreaming has been shown to be high risk and should be avoided. See the recent Cycling Weekly article if you want further information
  • If you do decide to ride in a group of more than 2 riders, remember that a group of six is the legal maximum. However, this is not condoned by the club, is at your own risk and you must not be in club colours.  Also, members are not to use the official WRC Facebook page to arrange such group rides.

If you require further information on the British Cycling current advice, please read through this document that they have provided. It gives you all the information you need:

https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/zuvvi/media/The_Way_Forward_18-06-20_FINAL.pdf

Keep safe everyone.

Regards,

Warrington Road Club Committee

Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Warrington Road Club Response: June 19th 2020

Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Warrington Road Club Response:

June 19th 2020

Dear Members:

Please see the latest communication from British Cycling regarding Covid19 and the impact on cycling activities:

https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/about/article/20200618-about-bc-news-British-Cycling-announces-reintroduction-of-club-and-group-activity-0

The safety and wellbeing of our club members is of paramount importance, as is the reputation of the club. The announcement from BC advises that it is ok to ride in groups of 6 people, yet you have to stay socially distant at 2 metres. It provides no guidance on how in practice to do this with regard to keeping safe on the roads.

Hence, Warrington Road Club (at this present moment) will be not be changing our policy, in that all our official group rides and meets for group rides in club kit at any point are currently banned.

Group rides are classed as anything more than 2 riders, so please continue to ride either solo or with just one other rider. Note that if you do decide to ride as a pair, you need to “socially distance” and a bit of common sense is needed: ie not directly next to someone and not behind in the slipstream.

We will review our policy as the Covid situation improves. Many thanks for your patience and your understanding in this matter, as far as we can tell, our club members have behaved impeccably at this time. Sticking to these rules is a very small thing to ask of people in these difficult times, and we thank you all for your efforts so far.

Further updates as follows:

  • Harry Barker 50 Mile Time Trial, Derek Devonport Road Race (TLI) and the 4up Team Time Trial all postponed until 2021.
  • Ron Spencer 25 Mile Time Trial is now cancelled, due to be held on the 22nd August, we are not confident that we could run a safe event. We’ll be happy to promote the event in 2021, when we must all hope that life will be back to normal.
  • A decision will be made in regards to the 2up Team Time Trial (pair) closer to the event which is due to be run at the end of September 2020.
  • Usually at this time of year the club is making a commitment for our trophy presentation in January. In view of the ongoing covid situation and the obvious lack of racing we will not be holding the event. We will have to wait until January 2022 for our 97th Annual Dinner!
  • In the light of the inactivity this year, we have agreed that subscriptions paid by all members will be valid through to the end of 2021, this will also apply to new members joining in the next few months.

Best wishes and keep safe.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Warrington Road Club Response: 17/03/2020

Following guidance from the government and actions taken by British Cycling, Cycling UK and other cycling institutions, Warrington Road Club official rides are suspended until further notice.

Saturday social, Sunday rides, Wednesday to the Mills and Chain Gangs are all postponed until due course.

Please do not meet at these usual times and do not meet in groups in club kit, this is forbidden and is not for debate.

Not something any of us wanted, but we must fall in line such recommendations at this time, which includes some of our fellow local clubs.

Of course there is no restriction on cycling at this time from the government, we hope this continues of course as other countries at this time are not so lucky. So please by all means ride solo and please do so safely.

Plan your rides appropriately, take food with you as you may find that a lot of cafes will shut, we wish them (and you) all the best in this difficult time.

Please stay in contact with each other using Facebook, email, phone, text, etc.

Stay fit and keep those pedals turning! Zwift and other Apps are about 12 quid a month, seeing your club members virtually bobbing their heads on a screen may just be the motivation to keep you on a turbo…

Committee members will post out some of the official notices over the coming days from the likes of British Cycling and Cycling UK as it may have some useful information and Q&A’s about the current situation.

Stay safe and best wishes.

WRC Committee.

NOTES:
Cycling Time Trials (CTT) races are all suspended until the End Of May, this includes our own 50 Mile Harry Barker memorial ride which will no longer take place.
TLI have suspended all races until further notice.
British Cycling have suspended all cycling activities until at least the 30th April.
