Warrington Road Club – Postponement of the WRC/VTTA 50TT
Warrington Road Club has moved the WRC/VTTA 50TT originally planned for the 22nd May and will now take place on the 21st August. As such, the 25TT we had planned for the 21st August has been cancelled and will resume in 2022.
Our organisers have been in contact with Cranage Village Hall and as there will be a restriction of 30 people in the car park for the WRC/VTTA 50 TT on the planned date of 22nd May, we feel this will cause a problem for both participants and organisers. Goostrey Village Hall is closed until after 21 June hence we cannot use this as a venue and have found no other suitable alternative. This HQ issue is affecting many of the early season events in Cheshire.
We have taken the following steps:
- 50TT event has moved to the 21st August, this also incorporates the Manchester & NW VTTA Championship.
- Remove Tandem event
- Include Road Bike event
- New date – Saturday 21 August 2021
- Start time 14:00 hrs.
- Course J4/9
- HQ Cranage Village Hall
We have dropped the Tandem event in favour of road bikes. There have been no tandem entries for many years and the interest in road bike events seems to be growing. We have also moved the event to course J4/9, the CTT National 50TT is on this course the week after our event. Those planning to ride the National 50TT will be able to test the course the week before so we believe this is a positive move for the event and look forward to a fast field.
We very much look forward to your entries, this is the Harry Barker Memorial Time Trial event for Warrington Road Club where the overall winner will be presented with the Harry Barker Trophy and provided with 2x Free Tickets for our Annual Club Dinner including special guests.
Previous winners of this prestigious event are riders such as Vin Denson, Stan Brittain, Harry Middleton, Darryl Webster, Andy Wilkinson, Michael Hutchinson, Glen Longland and most recently local rider Ben Norbury. Darren Maironis was the last winner of the event in 2019 winning the overall event and mens race on the day with Emily Martin from Weaver Valley Road Club winning the ladys event.
A pioneer in local cycling events, Harry Barker was a lead time keeper in the 1920’s and was the creater of the “Finishing Circuit” that the 12 and 24 Hour races still use today and was one of the founding members of our club, we look forward to hosting the overall winner on the day.
Warrington Road Club News for the Cancelled 25 Mile TT and Hence 25 Mile Ron Spencer Trophy Memorial.
The 25 Mile TT we normally organise we usually dedicate to our former Club Legend Ron Spencer. As this is now cancelled, the club requests riders wishing to compete for the Ron Spencer Trophy (Fastest WRC Rider over 25 Miles) should now enter the M&DTTA CTT event on the 4th July 2021.
Many thanks to David Wright and Alan Ottiwell in Warrington Road Club for making these swift changes and decisions.
Kind Regards
WRC Committee
