CHAIN GANGS:
Chain Gangs, these are specific to training at a high fitness level. The idea is to keep the chain as smooth as possible, which in turn actually makes it faster. Most of the riders who go on these are of a good fitness level and would be considered to be strong cyclists and currently race or perhaps have raced in the past. The chain gangs will test your speed, strength and ultimately improve your high end fitness. In the parts of the ride where you struggle the most, you push yourself more to hold somebody else’s wheel and not get dropped.
On the chain gangs, the idea is for the riders to get the training they want from these sessions, so people don’t wait around if others struggle… It’s worth looking at the route in case you’re not up to speed, knowing the route on this chain gang will be your responsibility to know where you are at any point.
These can average in speed at around 23-25 mph by the end of the chain gang, which means you will be travelling faster than that during the ride in order to maintain that average speed.

We meet at the Lymm Fire Station on the A50 which is just off the M6 Junction 20 heading towards Knutsford, map of meeting place further below. We leave at 13:00 prompt. The link of the course is below for your attention which is the route from Lymm Fire Station our starting point, and ends at the bus stop at the end of the A559 Northwich Road. The last 10 minutes involves a short hill climb where the chain gang normally ends and its every rider for themselves to the finish.

If you haven’t ridden chain gangs before, here are some videos of how the chain gangs work. The first is guidance and instruction, the other being recorded videos of our chain gang’s Tuesday ride.
Looks good practice on a nice closed circuit, so here is a video clip taken a few years back from our Tuesday Chain Gang, thanks to Dane Walker at WVCC for the video:
In the interest of your own safety and well being, Warrington Road Club rule is for all riders to wear approved safety helmets on all our group rides. Your helmets should not have been involved in a crash impact.
